The Artist
Marisa Kuizenga
I am perhaps one part egg yolk that I separated for my mother for her tempera icon paintings, and another part the scraps of wood I cobbled together from under my father’s table saw, for those small hands at work are part origin story for apprenticing to a gilder and framer at age 18, but the part that grew my spirit was being raised in the ocean and through the Santa Barbara backcountry, where I grew to feel most comfortable outdoors and happiest in a tent, bowing down to nature who always does it best and more beautifully than could be imagined.
