The Mission Guild – Terms of Service
Welcome to The Mission Guild (“we,” “our,” or “us”), an independent conservation and custom framing studio founded by Marisa Kuizenga in 2000. With over 36 years of experience in frame and gilded object conservation, custom framing and traditional water-gilding, we are dedicated to excellence in craftsmanship and abiding by the ethics of conservation.
By engaging with our services, you agree to the following Terms of Service.
1. Scope of Services
The Mission Guild provides:
- Restoration and conservation of frames and gilded/polychrome objects
- Custom frame design and fabrication
- Traditional water-gilding and finishing techniques
2. Client Obligations
Clients are responsible for:
- Confirming legal ownership or authorization of submitted artwork
- Providing accurate information on the artwork’s history, condition, and prior treatments, as known
- Reviewing and approving any proposed treatments or design concepts prior to work commencing
- Fully insuring all works of art while they are in transit, during treatment and/or while awaiting framing at The Mission Guild
3. Quotes, Deposits, and Payment
- Estimates are based on a preliminary assessment and may be revised if new conditions emerge during treatment
- A non-refundable deposit is required to initiate service
- Final payment is due upon completion of the project
- Unpaid balances may incur additional fees
4. Turnaround and Scheduling
Each project is unique and timelines will vary depending on the complexity of the work. We will provide an estimated completion window and communicate any significant changes.
5. Risk and Limitation of Liability
Due to the delicate and often historic nature of the items we handle, The Mission Guild is not liable for:
- Pre-existing damage
- Fragility due to age or materials
- Unexpected reactions from previous treatments or materials
6. Shipping, Handling, and Storage
- Clients are responsible for all shipping and transportation unless otherwise arranged
- We are not liable for loss or damage incurred during third-party shipping
- Artwork left unclaimed beyond 30 days after completion may incur storage fees
7. Use of Project Images
The Mission Guild has permission to photograph your artwork and the finished project for archival, educational, or promotional purposes.
8. Intellectual Property and Studio Content
All content on The Mission Guild’s website—including copy, images, branding, and educational materials—is the intellectual property of The Mission Guild and may not be used or reproduced without written consent.
9. Right to Refuse Projects
We reserve the right to decline any project that falls outside our expertise or compromises the integrity of our practice.
10. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California. Disputes arising from these Terms will be handled within the jurisdiction of Los Angeles County.
